State Committee protests against US State Department report on freedom of religion in Azerbaijan
Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Siyavush Heydarov has met with William E. Solley, Political Affairs Adviser of the US Embassy.
Azeri.Today informs with reference to Report that, having provided extensive information on the state of religion in the country, Heydarov stated that being a place of intersection of various civilizations, Azerbaijan for centuries was known as a country where representatives of various nationalities and religions lived in conditions of peace, stability, mutual understanding and mutual dialogue: "In our republic, the state takes care of Islamic and non-Islamic religious communities to expand their activities and ensure freedom of conscience, and allocates financial assistance to them. "
"We are pleased with the fact that the annual report of the US State Department on freedom of religion in Azerbaijan reflected some positive information about the state of religion in the country. However, some inaccurate information is also present in the report.
"It is unfortunate that despite repeated discussions between the State Committee and the US Embassy on the groundlessness of this information and clarification of such phenomena, they were reflected again in the report," the deputy chairman of the State Committee said.
Solley also regretted the re-inclusion of some of the resolved issues and noted the importance of speeding up discussions and cooperation to prevent the spread of such biased information.
